The Jewish Memorial Chapel is a unique funeral home. It is one of only a few nonprofit funeral homes in the United States. The Chapel is operated under the supervision of local Synagogues and other Jewish organizations in the Passaic/Essex County area. Our funerals are conducted with dignity and in strict compliance with Halacha (Jewish Law).
At the end of the fiscal year, any surplus earned by the Chapel are returned back to the community to many of the fine charities in the area. The money is earmarked for education, health, or care of the elderly. The criteria to be a member organization of the Chapel is ownership of grounds at a Jewish cemetery.
The Jewish Memorial Chapel has been in existence since 1921. Our original location was a small building on Columbia Avenue in Passaic. In 1949, we moved to 71-74 Howe Avenue in Passaic. In 1999, we constructed a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility, centrally located at 841 Allwood Road in Clifton, just off Route 3. In 2005, we added a stand-alone, climate controlled Kohanim Chapel, complete with a bi-directional audio/video hookup to the main Chapel. We are located less than two miles from King Solomon and Menorah Cemeteries in Clifton. There are many other Jewish cemeteries in the surrounding areas.
